Five ways organisations can join in with The Big Lunch at Christmas

There are lots of ways your business, school or community group can join in with The Big Lunch at Christmas and help spread warmth and connection over this festive period.

Hosting a Big Lunch can bring colleagues or your community together, celebrate volunteers or even showcase your work. And what’s more, it doesn’t need to be a sit-down meal with all the trimmings (although we’re not stopping you…!).

Here are some easy ways your organisation can join in with The Big Lunch at Christmas.

Bring people together and share friendship, food and festive fun

Host a Big Lunch where everyone brings something to that table. It could be food to share, drinks or even a joke or two. You could invite colleagues, different community groups that use the same space, or volunteers that support you all year-round.

Keep your doors open after hours and invite your wider community to pop in for a mince pie and some mulled apple-juice. Use it as an opportunity to put some names to the faces you see regularly and share what you do. A great way to break the ice is Human Bingo!

Get crafting over tea and cake

Arrange for everyone to do a Christmassy activity together, such as making decorations, whilst sharing some festive food. It can be a great way to save money, plus doing something creative together can help build connections and get those conversations flowing. Why not work together to create an advent window at your office?

Involve your remote workers

Many people feel isolated over the festive period and this can be worse for a remote team or workers. While gifts are a lovely thought, they’re not a replacement for real connection.

Why not send out a Christmas card and some tea, coffee or hot chocolate and encourage people to bring their cuppa to a festive call? Remember that big group calls can be quite daunting, so consider small groups in breakout rooms. Check out our Conversation Menu if you’re worried about what to talk about!

Donate your work Christmas do!

Instead of eating out, bring something to share together at a homemade buffet and gift the money planned for your team celebration to a local community group, good cause or someone who could benefit more.

Or, bring your team together to go and support your local community – can you volunteer at a food bank for a day or do a litter pick in the area? Many charities offer corporate work team days where everything is organised, so you just need to turn up.
