Action for Children, the UK-wide charity that protects and supports vulnerable children and young people, have hosted their first ever Big Lunch at their centre in North London last weekend as part of the Month of Community, in glorious sunshine!
Food and gifts, donated by the Iceland Foods Charitable Foundation, for the Action for Children Big Lunch delighted the children, and meant families received lunch and packed food bundles to take home, plus gifts of bubbles and outdoor games including bowling sets, paddling pools and water blasters.
Iceland Foods and the Food Warehouse are sponsors of The Big Lunch and their charitable foundation has long had commitment to making life better for people in their communities.
Action for Children have 476 services in communities across the UK and the charity helps more than 370,000 children, teenagers, parents and carers a year. At the North London centre the children had an incredible afternoon in the enclosed garden which has a playground with trampoline, swings and slides. The centre itself is home to 'chill out zones' and sensory rooms ensuring all children who visit have a memorable and fun time!
The Big Lunch even had a very special guest - TV presenter and Action for Children supporter, Anthea Turner rolled up her sleeves to help serve up a Big Lunch for the charity's staff, volunteers and young beneficiaries. Watch the film below!
Anthea pledged her support to the initiative and is encouraging other communities and charities to celebrate the Month of Community by throwing a Big Lunch.
She said "I am absolutely overjoyed to be part of Action for Children's Big Lunch, celebrating the wonderful Action for Children family. I've worked with them for many years now and know the amazing work they do for children, young people and families, up and down the country. The kids and I had lots of fun today, so I'd encourage everyone to get together for their own Big Lunch and if they can fundraise for this fantastic charity at the same time, even better!"
Action for Children will be hosting several more Big Lunches throughout the Month of Community so keep an eye out for more information and how to donate to them here.
During the Month of Community, The Big Lunch is inviting charities and communities across the UK to reconnect and fundraise throughout June to help support communities and causes that need it most.
