Plan your do
Everything you need to make your do a reality!
Big or small, what you do is up to you…
…whether that’s a cuppa with neighbours, a party for your street, a litter pick, or having a friendly chat at a care home – we can all do something!
However you decide to take part, we’re here to help you plan something that works for you and your community. There’s no right or wrong way to join in – each do will be different, just like the communities they’re part of.

How about one big do?
If you’re one of our seasoned Big Lunchers, or you’ve got stuck in with The Big Help Out these last few years – why not hold one big do?
That might be doing a community litter pick or asking people to bring food to donate to a food bank as part of your usual Big Lunch. It’s sure to give everyone that feel-good feeling!
Or if you already know amazing people who give their time to help others, you could hold a Big Lunch to say a big thank you. It’s a perfect event to hold as part of Volunteers’ Week (1-7 June 2026) as part of the Month of Community.
Emma’s story
Emma spearheads Love Barrow Libraries, a groundbreaking project providing volunteer opportunities for people experiencing loneliness and isolation. Once inducted, people are invited to help run sessions such as a Friendship Café, where visitors can come to enjoy some company and a cup of tea.
Emma organised her first Big Lunch in 2024, honouring the library’s team of volunteers, who were all presented with a special certificate celebrating the contribution they’ve made to the community. Over 200 people came together to celebrate with food, games, crafts, a silent disco and Makaton choir.
