Street parties have long been associated with national celebrations, and the Platinum Jubilee was no different.
To help events run smoothly, we came together with partners Playing Out, Sustrans, Neighbourhood Watch and Street Party to send a letter ask the Department of Transport to make road closures free and easier for the Jubilee year – and beyond.
The good news is that lots of councils across the UK were already supporting The Big Lunch by waiving fees for road closures, running public Big Lunch events, encouraging communities to take part and even making funding available in some places.
We want to say a great big thank you to all those that backed The Big Lunch 2022, with this special recognition list of Platinum Councils.

Northern Ireland
Councils across Northern Ireland had Platinum Jubilee programmes, many of which included public Big Jubilee Lunches. The Northern Ireland councils all enabled community-led celebrations, provided council community grants and advertised The National Lottery Community Fund Awards for All funding, which provides grants of £300 to £10,000 – in addition to the Platinum Jubilee Fund.
