The National Lottery has provided the funding to make the work we do and The Great Big Walk possible. The Big Lottery Fund is delighted to invest funding that supports people who want to make a positive change in their communities. The Great Big Walk will strengthen neighbourhood networks, create a greater sense of community cohesion and improve the lives of communities across the UK. Bringing communities together, reducing loneliness and isolation and helping to make a difference locally is at the heart of the Big Lottery Fund’s mission.

YHA (England & Wales) creates opportunities for all, especially young people with challenging lives, to explore England and Wales’ most inspiring landscapes. YHA operates a network of over 160 historic and characterful hostels and is dedicated to making travel accessible to everyone. YHA is supporting The Great Big Walk by providing accommodation for the walking teams and support staff. We are looking forward to resting our weary legs in some of their unique accommodation!

The Great Get Together is inspired by Jo Cox, who was killed on 16 June last year. They believe there is a groundswell of people who reject divisive politics and simply want to bring our communities together and celebrate all that unites us. As the prime minister said, when she remarked on Jo’s death in her New Year’s message: 2017 represents an opportunity to move forward and “bring this country together, as never before”. We are pleased to be partnering with The Great Get Together and The Jo Cox Foundation in doing just that.
