NEWS FROM WALES: FEBRUARY

Wales’ first loneliness and isolation strategy launched

It’s been a few years in the making, but we were so pleased to see this strategy being launched by the Welsh Government earlier in February. The strategy, is titled ‘Connected Communities’, which sounds right up our street! Brilliantly, the strategy will be supported by a £1.4m fund, which will support community-based organisations to help those suffering loneliness and social isolation.

We know there are loads of amazing initiatives going on to support people across generations and across the country who are at risk of loneliness. And we know loads of you are having an amazing impact in your community, whether through connecting your street with your Big Lunch, or with an ongoing community project, so a big well done to you guys, and keep doing what you do!

We’ll fill you in with any updates as and when they come, so keep up to date with our newsletter.

Congratulations to Josh on his cold swimming challenge!

Shout out to our friend Josh Pike of ‘Summit Good’ (who you may remember hosted one of our get togethers in Swansea at the end of last year) for hitting the headlines by taking a cold-water wild swim in Swansea bay every day for the last year. We also love that in the summer strangers join him and they all have tea and cake on the beach afterwards – lush! Read more about Josh’s challenge.

Funding

Were you successful in getting the #CelebrateNationalLottery25 fund recently?

You may remember a few months ago we told you about the National Lottery’s 25th birthday funding pot, which made available one-off funding of up to £1000. We know lots of people requested funds for celebration events, including Big Lunches, and with this in mind, we’d love to hear what you have planned in your community, and how you’ll be bringing people together with the fund.

Whether or not you were successful, if you have an idea to make something good happen in your community, then come and join our Wales-wide network events. We aim to bring like-minded people, doing good in their area, together to share, learn and celebrate. Get in touch with Sam to find out when your next local event is.
