Big Lunch celebration
18 July 6-7.30pm
19 July 12-1.30pm
Organised a Big Lunch and wondering what’s next? Join us and other Big Lunch organisers from across the country for an online celebration of all Big Lunches – big and small. Let’s celebrate what the Big Lunch brought to our communities and create some space to chat about how to keep the Big Lunch momentum going.
Save the date for the Northern Ireland network residential: 5-6 October in the NW
This residential weekend is for anyone involved in community. You might organise a Big Lunch, community project, or want to start something but might need to meet some supportive people first.
We will include a variety of relaxation, personal development and mindfulness activities; inspirational project visits and talks; collaboration workshops; training; and we’ll of course share some great food. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you’re interested in attending. The residential is free, thanks to the National Lottery Community Fund, but we will require a deposit to secure a space.
The Big Lunch 2019 in Northern Ireland
The Big Lunch continues across Northern Ireland all through June and July. We are having a fantastic year, rain or shine. 2 June had blazing sun and later Big Lunches battled with torrential rain… and won!
There have been many stand-out moments this year - Ceili dancing in the street at the Holyland Big Eid, Teddybear Puddle jumping in Garvagh, Tai Chi in Groomsport, Hulahooping and Ukeleleying in Cranmore Park, Belfast, Giant Jenga in East Belfast, and ice cream under umbrellas in Kings Park. We had 1055 pack requests this year, and so many Big Lunches in towns in every county. Please get in touch with email@example.com if you’d like a box of free PG Tips tea for yourself and a future Big Luncher in a street nearby.
Thanks to every single person who took time to be part of The Big Lunch 2019 – our survey is live now so please check your email if you registered for a Big Lunch pack this year.
Applications for Community Camps are now open
This year’s community camp is open to anyone who is leading a voluntary community project. We are especially inviting applications from Big Lunch organisers, and we would like a good mix of ages, backgrounds, and types of project. Your project idea should either be a new initiative, or should be an innovative development on an existing initiative. It can be any size of project and from anywhere in Northern Ireland, so long as the focus is on building community.
The Community Camps are inspiring intensive weekends, from Friday to Monday, 20 - 23 September, and 22 - 25 November where you will be introduced to roughly 60 people from across the UK who are also building community in their own areas and in their own ways.
The aim is to build up a strong network of mutually supportive community organisers. There are a mixture of workshops, creative activities, talks, and tours of the biomes. Thanks to the National Lottery Community Fund, everything is provided free of charge to the successful applicants, including food, travel and accommodation. We have 12 places for Northern Ireland this year so please apply by 1 July for the best chance of success. Please share the application link with anyone you know who might be a good candidate.
Visit other projects
We will be pairing people up for mutual project visits over the summer to share and learn from each other. We will cover your travel expenses, so please get in touch with firstname.lastname@example.org if you’d like to be involved.
