Hosting a Big Lunch to say Thank You!

After hearing about The Big Lunch, Nadine was really keen to organise an event at the new Dyfi Osprey center in Machynlleth, to thank volunteers

“So many volunteers have helped us over the years, and even more have supported us to get the new Center up and running. The Big Lunch was a great opportunity to bring a load of us together for the first time and for me to share a taste of the food that will be available in my new café on site, to thank everyone. ”

Nadine worked with Alex, the Centre's new event organiser and Janine who also works on site, to organise, working with The Big Lunch team for ideas along the way.

“We kept it simple this year with the focus on conversation, getting together and enjoying a delicious lunch. I would have enjoyed being able to open the event up to the local community, but because Covid's rules were constantly changing, it was better to stick to the volunteers this year. Next year, I'd like to run activities too! ”

The volunteers really enjoyed attending and everyone enjoyed the food!

“Emyr the Manager was really excited to have over 30 volunteers together on the day. He made a lovely speech to thank the volunteers and make them realise how important they are to the Center and the local community. The cakes were a hit, being able to provide a buffet was great and an opportunity for us to practice catering for other community events here in the future. This was the first event we held here, and Eden Project Communities made it all so easy by sharing bunting, aprons, badges and stickers - it was all easy and fun.”

There is no doubt that the volunteers have benefited as has the Center;

“Getting coverage in the press and the media was great. I was on television on S4C’s ‘Heno’ programme talking about the event and we had a lovely article in the Cambrian News after the event, this not only boosted the volunteers but also us as a new center in the community. The event has brought everyone closer. The Big Lunch is so lovely and easy to organise without the stress of normal events. It was a day to remember and we will definitely be doing it next year and hopefully inviting the whole community in!”
