We're after 5x PR and Content Officers and 5x Marketing & Administration Coordinators to follow our lead walkers on one of 5 routes across the UK.
The roles are from 27 May until 18 June, with a few training days beforehand.
Each route leaves Batley in West Yorkshire and makes its way to either Cornwall, London, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. Each walking day (there will be rest days!) you'll visit community groups to shine a light on the power of connected communities, while drumming up support for The Big Lunch.
PR Content Officers will need to prepare content for media, social media, the blog, website and e-newsletters. You'll have a keen eye for a good story, be social media savvy, know how to take a good photo and be comfortable working with journalists and talking to media professionals.
Marketing & Administration Coordinators will need to help set up events, promote The Great Big Walk and The Big Lunch, and help handle logistics for both the walkers and the daily community visits.
It will be an intense but fun and rewarding 3 weeks!
PR & Content Support (5 Roles)
You will provide PR and Content Support for one of the five teams undertaking The Great Big Walk to help drive public engagement in the walk. Collaborating with the central PR team you’ll set up and deliver regional media opportunities for the walkers and the local communities including planning, contacting and meeting regional media, liaising with them in advance so that content requirements are met.
You’ll capture case studies and news as it unfolds with potential to inform stories which are distributed to the National media as well as regional and/or used on social media. This will include acting as the local stringer on the ground providing rapid scene descriptions, quotations, photos and video footage as required.
You’ll share content several times daily on social media and set up interviews and opportunities to gain greatest exposure in the regional media including: TV, Radio, Newspapers, online regional media and local magazines.
You need to be able to identify stories and deliver fresh and exciting ideas to gain the maximum media exposure for the projects being visited whilst ensuring a consistency of brand and messaging for The Big Lunch, The National Lottery and The Great Get Together.
You’ll also work closely with the Marketing and Admin support to generate as much interest in the events as possible, for example conducting door drops, fly posting and contacting community groups and to scope out local advertising opportunities to encourage participation in the events in advance of the walk party arriving.
Marketing & Admin Support (5 Roles)
You’ll proactively market the walk to communities on route encouraging participation via door drops, fly posting and contacting community groups along the route and manage promotional materials and giveaways prior to each venue stop. You will identify local advertising opportunities to encourage participation in the events including contacting councils, tourist boards, universities and colleges etc.
You will support the wider crew by organising all PR and support equipment and materials including ensuring all electrical devices are charged and available for use 24 hrs a day such as cameras, phones, navigation equipment etc. This will also include general admin support for the team regarding budgets and expenses and potentially driving one of the vehicles.
You’ll work closely with the PR & Content Support person in your crew to set up and prepare for events and will actively engage with the communities and event organisers to ensure these run smoothly and have marketing presence. You’ll also support by publishing content on social media, sending information to the central comms team to publish on the website and request and send logos, images and stories to local media on route.
