Since 2009, The Big Lunch has been bringing millions of people together to share food and fun in a nationwide act of community friendship on the first weekend in June every year. This year, The Big Jubilee Lunch will be part of the official celebrations for HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee on 2-5 June, and will once again kick start a whole Month of Community.
As a charity, Eden Project Communities relies on the generosity of funders and partnerships for our programme of activities and events to help us to reach as many people in communities as possible. Our core community development programme is supported by The National Lottery Community Fund and this year they have pledged over £22 million of The National Lottery Community Funds to help communities across the country celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Our research shows that people who take part in a Big Lunch are then more likely to go on to become active citizens. Our partners Pears Foundation are supporting The Big Lunch’s aim to reach more people in communities to celebrate and make this the most memorable year ever.
We have also partnered up with a number of like-minded brands who we will be working with to create helpful destination points in organising both fun and easy Big Lunches!
Nextdoor is the social network dedicated to neighbourhoods and is used by millions of people across the UK to connect to each other. We will be working with them to encourage these connections and provide helpful resources from how to find a Big Lunch in your area to how to organise a street party via their platform. There is no better time to make connections and start planning!
Iceland are in their second year supporting The Big Lunch and this year are dedicated to encouraging their 1000 stores to support chosen charity Action for Children and host Big Lunches as fundraisers. Big Lunchers can also take part by supporting Action for Children, a local cause or a number of charities as part of the Month of Community. Paul Dhaliwal, trustee at IFCF states, “Over the past two years charities have never been more needed and we want to support the wonderful Action for Children by hosting Big Lunches and raising vital funds.”
No lunch is too small to be a Big Lunch! And a cuppa is as much a feature of The Big Lunch as bunting and PG tips have a number of exciting recipes for all weathers from iced tea to cocktails on their social pages. We will be working with them to bring people together over the coming months.
